Final Project Program Summary Assignment Expectations
DUE DATE: Day 7, Sunday before 11:59 pm MT
1. Re-read your chosen program scenario provided in Appendix B.
2. Read your previous written assignments related to your program scenario and the new program you have developed for your scenario agency.
3. Using your previous learning and reading for this course, summarize the process of a program's development. Note, you are not being asked to detail your proposed program, but you are being asked to explain the process a program manager would use to develop a new program. (For example, you do not need to write the evaluation plan for your program, but talk about factors in selecting the types of evaluations to be used, when they would be used, etc.) What thoughts would they have? What areas would need to be included in a new program in order to thoroughly develop it? Are there formulas that can be used to be sure all necessary information is included? What options need to be considered? Where can they obtain assistance within or outside of the organization? Be sure you discuss how the program manager of your chosen scenario would go about developing:

Again, your task in this assignment is NOT simply to define each of these areas, but to think like a program manager and explain the process you would undertake to complete each of these sections that would be considered during program development. You should use your scenario agency and your new program idea developed during this course to explain and illustrate the processes you would go through as a manager.
- Follow the writing format of:
- In your introduction, tell the reader what you plan to cover in your paper
- In the body of your written assignment, respond to each component of the assignment clearly and concisely
- In your summary, tell the reader what you covered in your paper.

Mechanics - typing, punctuation, capitalization, grammar and spelling are correct; evidence that WritePoint and Spellchecker were used (30 pts). Paper is written in the third person objective (20 pts) and contains no subjective discussion.
APA - The paper, including title page, reference page, page numbers, headings, tables and appendixes, is laid out with effective use of headings, double spacing, font styles and white spaces and follows APA formatting guidelines (10 pts). References and citations of original works within the body of the paper are formatted per APA requirements (30 pts). Quotations should only be used to provide specific data or support your own conclusions. Do not use extensive quotations in this paper. However, use of at least 2 sources beyond the text and Appendix are expected. (10 pts)
Major Points - as noted in #3 above are stated clearly, are organized logically and are supported by specific details, examples or analysis using the new program developed for one of the Scenario agencies, either PEACE or Continental. Each of the seven areas noted are explained from the program manager's perspective (70 pts), using the chosen scenario and especially the student's new program idea to illustrate examples (30 pts). Included is information on what thoughts the program development manager would have, what areas would need to be included in a new program in order to thoroughly develop it, formulas that can be used to be sure all necessary information is included, what options need to be considered and where program managers might obtain assistance within or outside of the organization?
Questions are answered including, but not limited to, how the program manager would go about developing:
· Overview of the program - what elements do they need to think about when writing an overview of a program? Perhaps you might use the program planning formula discussed in your text as the basis for this section.
· Assessment - What is a needs assessment? Why is it important to do one? Talk about the 4 types of needs and ways the manager can understand needs of a target population (forums, surveys, etc.) and discuss quantitative and qualitative approaches.
· Needs and problem statement- What is included in the statement? What problems do program managers need to avoid when writing this statement? Again, review your text on the subject
· Program planning - When writing a program plan, what sections need to be included? Talk a bit about how the manager would develop each section, from approaches & methods, mission, goals, activities, project management, evaluation, budget, etc.
· Alternative funding -Why might the manager need to consider alternative funding? What types of funding could he/she use? What might not work for this kind of program?
· Implementation -What does the manager need to think about when implementing the program? Think about political and technical factors. What could get in the way of smooth implementation? What could a manager do to avoid or fix those problems?
· Evaluation -Why is evaluation important? What options could the manager use to evaluate a program? When would certain types of evaluation be selected? Why might the manager not want to use a particular type? At what points during the life of the program might evaluation be conducted?
